A blurb on what inspired me to create my artworks and aura painting

City of Hope

Once again, another painting completed! This piece was commissioned by a friend that I met in Seoul earlier this year and who wanted something for her parents' wedding anniversary. I was asked to use a range of hunter green and burgundy colours and a black/straight/simple theme. Being my friend the kind of person that gives a buzz of enthusiasm and happiness to any person around her, I thought to paint a mystical city and decided to call it City of Hope. I found it really appropriate~~~ㅋㅋㅋ

Katrina, best of luck with your new career.

THE SECRET ART SHOW collection - revealed

It is with my great pleasure that I can immediately reveal my painting exhibited at The Secret Art Show (Oct 2011). The paintings in the exhibition went on sale today 7th Oct 2011 at 9am and my piece got sold almost immediately.
I would sincerely like to thank the person who bought my work.

Dawn (Dark)

The above work is part of a two-piece collection. The matching painting was sold earlier this year at the previous The Secret Art Show.
Here is the collection in full. I got inspiration for this work on a beautiful winter morning in Seoul when I went for a walk through the little park on the hill behind my house. The pieces are very tiny (12cm x 12cm as the artwork is to fit a CD case) and it is very challenging for me to creates minute details on such a small surface.

A sea of Happiness & Love

After a dreadfully long period with no time to dedicate to my painting, I am finally back in front of the canvas. Just finished off a private commission and now working on a few more.
Two of my friends got married recently. I created this piece as a wedding gift for them

The Aura Series

After taking a break from painting to go on tour with friends that play in a band and further gallivanting on my own, I am finally back in the UK.
Once again I find myself working on Auras portraits. The following pair are my first two private commissions since my return to the country. The last painting is slighly more elaborate than previous work because I had a full day to complete my sketch.
More to come...

Esoteric Art – The End

Last night was an extra night of painting for me. I decided to do these additional portraits mainly to satisfy the people that had to leave empty handed on the Friday before. As this time I was not working under pressure, I had the opportunity to take snapshots of my customers with their own portrait. I have to say, what an experience has been this art project! I really enjoyed working on it and am really satisfied with the results. Telling the truth, I never expected to have so many commissions when I set up the whole thing with my friend Gaia...perhaps I might even dedicate all my artwork to aura portraits from now on ~~~~he he he.

Esoteric Art – Take 3 (how many more???)

Been so busy last weekend gallivanting in Venice – ahh the stressful bohemian life of an artist ~~~~ㅋㅋㅋ!!! – I did not manage to upload updates from last Friday Esoteric Art Event at Pinguino until now. The evening went incredibly well and for the first time ever I ended up taking orders for future portraits as not able to fulfil all the requests on the night (my apologies to those unfortunates who ended up going back home with empty hands!). Because of time restrictions, I couldn't really manage snapshots of all the paintings done so I am going to upload only the first couple I did. A very interesting duo...I am pretty sure she has been an Aztek sorceress in her previous life.

Esoteric Art in Italy The Opening Night

What a great night was last night at Pinguino. We started the art event with me creating abstract paintings inspired by people's aura, personality and inner energy. For an artist is such a great opportunity.

Esoteric Art in Italy, The Beginning

Quick sketches of people's aura and inner energy captured on canvas at Gelateria Pinguino, Ferrara, Italy. I have started my odyssey into the mystical world by painting the two owners of the place, G&G magic duo. More to come this coming Friday 15th when the whole project officially starts.

Esoteric Art in Italy

After repetitive travelling between Korea and the UK for almost a year, my art has now taken me to Italy to participate to a series of art events in collaboration with a friend of mine, Gaia. She is the proud owner of Gelateria Pinguino, one of the best places in the renaissance town of Ferrara where to enjoy a night out whilst eating a copious amount of - ever so delicious - ice cream. I had this idea to use Pinguino as a platform for art events and turn it into a gathering of bohemian artists where people who enjoy art may feel enthused with inspiration.
First art event is scheduled for Friday 15th July 2011 with me as a guest artist. On the night I will be creating bespoke paintings inspired by people's personality and energy. I have never attempted to do such painting in public so I am really excited at the thought and feel ever so grateful to Gaia for buying into my ideas and trusting me completely with this.

Joy of Dance

For once a blog entry not focusing on my art! Recently I have been asked to work as an exhibition curator for the Cambridge (UK) exhibition Joy of Dance. Despite the usual last minute panic and the ever tiring process of putting together an exhibition, I thoroughly enjoyed helping the two exhibiting artists, Rog Palmer and Virginia Neild, with all the planning for and preparation of this event. If you are in Cambridge these days, please come and see the magic of dance at the Guildhall.

Rog Palmer - Photographer

Virigina Neild - Figurative Artist

These were my favourite pieces in the whole exhibition, photos of a dancer called Tiago. Perhaps not quite as perfect as 김현중 but for sure one of the best bodies around~~~ㅋㅋㅋ

Camper Van Project – Take 3 The End

Here it comes the final stage of my Camper Van Project. I completed the design by painting the front and the other side. I initially wanted one side to mirror the other but then decided to make the right side more dynamic as this is the one that cars will see whilst overtaking the van. Hope you like the final result as much as I do! I surely enjoyed painting my artwork on this cute little thing.
What an amazing experience has been. Now I am simply looking forward to see this van travelling up and down country roads in Britain and making me proud!

Camper Van Project - Take 2

After a lot of planning and hours spent with a brush in my hands, here it comes the first side and the back of the campervan. It took me literally forever to understand how to paint efficiently on metal but I am really happy with the resulted look. Nothing more rewarding than painting a campervan on the side of the road with kids screaming 'wow, it looks wicked!' when passing by. More to come....

Camper Van Project - Take 1

Today I started working on one of the coolest commissions I have ever had: I have been asked to revamp this campervan with my art and make it much more appealing to the folk people.

Stay tune to see the final hippie product!!!

THE SECRET ART SHOW collection - revealed

It is with my absolute delight that I upload here the photo of the painting I exhibited at The Summer MS Trust SECRET ART SHOW 2011.

Click here to see the list of all participating artists to this event.

My piece has now been sold, so I can reveal it. The inspiration for the concept came from a series of cards that I created to invite selected guests to the Gallery Golmok exhibition in Seoul. I would like to take this chance to say thanks to the person that bought my work.

The series of cards whose motives I used as inspiration for Dawn (Light) above.

I had another work featured in the exhibition, Winter Sky.  This was actually something that I painted a very long time ago as a secondary work for the previous MS Trust show. The piece was (unknowingly to me) put on sale and got immediately sold!!!
Many thanks to the person that bought this one also.

Encounter with a fan

The other day at the Buddha's birthday Parade in Seoul I was approached by this girl who recognized me as an artist. She asked a lot of questions about the concept behind my artwork that she had seen on display at one of the local art galleries. It doesn't often happen to a painter to be recognized by a fan in the street so, after chatting a bit, I asked if I could take a photo of her to post on my blog. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name.
